2009 & 2010 LINCOLN MKS: Check this out!!! Power and Economy, the new optional 3.5-liter EcoBoost" V6 for their 2010 Lincoln MKS flagship. As Lincoln points out, "With the fuel economy of a V-6, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost" engine delivers an impressive 355 horsepower and a responsive 350 lb.-ft. of torque across a broad rpm range. That gives the Lincoln MKS the power of a normally aspirated 4.6-liter V-8. It also means a Lincoln MKS can deliver more performance and provide better fuel economy than many of its Asian or European competitors, even some competitors' V-8s. In order to arrive at this performance level, Lincoln engineers chose to incorporate water cooled, twin parallel turbochargers. They operate simultaneously and work in tandem with a gasoline direct-injection fuel delivery system to produce power instantly when you mash the gas pedal. The result is lag-less performance from the twin-turbo'd engine. Another big benefit is the gasoline direct fuel injection system where fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber by way of high pressure (2,175 PSI, according to Lincoln engineers). Effectively, six individual jets spray fuel directly into the chamber. There is no delay from the time the fuel is injected to the time when it is used by the engine. Equally important is the fact that the incoming air charge (compressed by the twin turbos) is effectively cooled by the directly injected fuel. Two important side benefits include improved fuel burn and lower emissions. In terms of measurable numbers, the MKS with EcoBoost produces its peak power (355 hp) at a comparatively low 5700 rpm but, most important, the little V-6 produces maximum torque (350 foot-pounds) at a very low 3500 rpm. Equally significant, the torque curve is flat. That means useful power is available (in a big way) almost anywhere you need it. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mileage numbers for the 2010 Lincoln MKS are: 17/24 city/highway for MKS FWD; 16/23 for MKS AWD, and 17/25 city/highway miles per gallon for the 2010 MKS AWD with Ecoboost". As you might have guessed, the prodigious performance offered by the EcoBoost" engine grabbed most of our attention (it's that good). Yet the truth is, the rest of the top-line Lincoln is no slouch either. In order to get the big torque to the ground, the Lincoln incorporates a six-speed SelectShift Automatic" transmission with paddle shift activation backed by an all-wheel-drive system. Lincoln engineers went through the automatic so that it was up to the task of backing the stout twin turbo'd V-6. Upgrades include reworked gears, more robust friction materials and a new torque converter. Simultaneously, the final drive ratio was reduced to a 2.77:1. That reduced the engine speed under almost all conditions. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard with the MKS EcoBoost" engine package and so is an expanded level of standard equpment that includes Intelligent Access with Push Button Start, ambient lighting, adaptive HID headlamps with Auto High-beam, rain-sensing wipers and rear-window power sunshade. Impressive Design and Amenities On the outside, the MKS for 2010 is little changed from last year. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's a handsome luxury sedan with fluid lines from the split wing waterfall grille to the thin spoiler on the tall deck lid to the dual exhaust tips. Sporty? Yes, but it's unmistakably a Lincoln. Chrome trim is plentiful (in a good way?it's refreshing to see chrome trim used tastefully). And our test car, in Red Candy Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat (one of four new exterior color schemes for the 2010 model year) proved absolutely stunning. You won't lose this Lincoln in a parking lot. Crack open the driver's door and you'll be met with a new three-pod instrument cluster. The steering wheel includes ergonomic grips at the 10:00 and 2:00 O'clock positions, situated perfectly to use the integrated paddle shifters. Seats are firm and, as expected, full-functioned. Lincoln phased out the suede seat material late in 2009. Our test car came equipped with discerning chocolate and graphite leather trimmed seats. Like the outside of the MKS, there's plenty of well placed chrome trim to remind you this is, after all, a Lincoln. One thing we can't forget is the wide suite of available technology in the MKS series. For example, the Navigation Package provides voice-activated DVD Navigation with THX? II 5.1 surround sound, DVD/CD/MP3 player, includes 10GB music jukebox and SIRIUS Travel Link". The popular SYNC® information system returns (it includes the capability to voice-activate most phones and media players). Newly added to SYNC, integrated real time traffic reports, turn by turn directions, sports scores and other useful information. (SYNC Traffic, Directions and Information, however, is not available on vehicles equipped with the optional factory-installed navigation systems.) In the end, the Lincoln MKS for 2010 bristles with technology. But to us at least, the (really) big news is the optional EcoBoost" engine package. This is a strong arm Lincoln that has few peers when it comes to prodigious thrust. Therein lies the charm of Lincoln's twin turbo package. It provides the performance of a much larger displacement engine, but when you keep your foot out of the go-pedal, the fuel-efficiency of a smaller V-6. Advantage: Torque. And in this situation, Lincoln could have the best game in town. Special Programs | More Info | In Inventory?

2009 & 2010 LINCOLN MKX: Power and Handling Driving the Lincoln MKX is really what it's all about though. Fitted with a standard 3.5-liter V6, our all-wheel-drive Midnight Limited Edition model worked effortlessly in day-to-day traffic. Add the expected rainfall the Northwest has to offer, and the optional AWD system is a decided bonus. The all-aluminum V6 produces 265 hp at 6,250 rpm along with 250 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,500 rpm. That's a good chunk of power and torque from a small engine, but Lincoln engineers made it all possible by way of variable camshaft timing and a dual plenum induction system. It's coupled to a superlative 6-speed automatic that makes even spirited driving simple and relaxing. We suspect the considerable work Lincoln has done with the powertrain management system, linking the engine, transmission and all-wheel-drive system together is a big key to the overall powertrain performance. Handling is another Lincoln MKX attribute. It's definitely nimble, particularly with the optional sport tuned suspension that comes with the 22-inch wheels. By concentrating on the overall strength of the body structure and making it as rigid as possible, Lincoln created a quiet, stable platform that allows the suspension to physically "work" unencumbered. The front of the Lincoln MKX is suspended by way of a pair of MacPherson struts while the rear is a fully independent multi-link arrangement. Although tuned somewhat for ride comfort (and consequently tuned to absorb the jolts of irregular road surfaces), the Lincoln MKX can still be hustled through curves and corners with a certain amount of aplomb. The truth is, it's an agile CUV. Mix in the considerable sound deadening materials, laminated windshield and thicker side glass, along with upscale materials in the cabin and you'll be blessed with a ride that's not only capable, it's extremely quiet too. Safety and Luxury Stability control is a standard feature. AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control") is designed to help keep all four wheels firmly planted. The Safety Canopy® System incorporates side curtain airbags, for front and rear outboard passengers, and rollover sensor. Front-seat side airbags and the Personal Safety System®, along with integrated blind spot mirrors and SOS Post Crash Alert System add to safety. Optionally available are special "adaptive" headlamps that physically move with the steering wheel for improved night vision when going around corners. Overall, the Lincoln MKX is loaded with considerable luxury and safety-related features, both standard and optional. Our take on it is that while it reminds us (in a big way) of the groundbreaking 1961 Continental, it proves light years ahead in terms of luxury and overall accouterments. It's also relatively frugal when it comes to fuel economy (15 mpg city, 22 mpg highway with the all-wheel-drive system, based on 2009 Model Year ratings*). Bottom line? Not only is the 2010 Lincoln MKX easy on the eyes, it's also one crossover SUV that we could live with for a very long time. And like its ancestor from 1961, it certainly won't be hard to parallel park. Special Programs | More Info | In Inventory?

2010 LINCOLN MKZ: For the 2010 model year, Lincoln has given the MKZ a considerable revamp in order to keep pace in one of the auto industry's most competitive segments. Significant changes took place on the exterior, effectively integrating styling elements from Lincoln's MKS flagship. The entire front end is new, showcasing Lincoln's split-wing grille coupled with slimmer headlights. The hood is sculpted and flows into the A-pillar. At the rear, the low lift-over height decklid is new, giving way to wider, thinner LED tail lamps. 17x7.5-inch, 9-spoke machined finish aluminum wheels are standard (chrome plate is optional), and 18x7.5-inch, 10-spoke polished wheels are available as part of the Sport Appearance Package. There's more too: When it comes time to gas up, release the fuel door and you'll find the fuel filler is in fact "capless." It's a racing inspired system that we found actually helps prevent fuel from contacting your hands during a fill up. Simple but brilliant. So far so good, but what about the inside? Open the door and you'll immediately discover Lincoln focused upon quality. The cabin reflects an upscale look with genuine wood or aluminum trim (depending upon the package), an all-new instrument panel and imported Bridge of Weir leather trimmed seats. Slide into the heated and cooled driver's seat and you'll realize the instrument cluster is daytime lit (something we learned to appreciate in our too-short test drive). The large speedometer is central to the cluster with the tach on the left and the balance of the instruments to the right. It's a functional, driver's system. Optionally available is an ambient lighting package that can be customized to suit your 2 interior atmosphere. Settle in behind the leather wrapped steering wheel and you'll quickly note the real wood trim (at the top of the steering wheel, across the instrument panel and across each door panel). To us, at least, the traditional style of contrasting seat piping on the leather trim proved to be a pleasant touch. The radio and climate control "stack" is located directly below the optional navigation system on the leading edge of the center console. The mix of push buttons and common sense rotary controls work well for hands of all sizes (with or without gloves). A big part of Lincoln's push forward with the MXZ is centered around technology. Exclusive technology for this vehicle segment includes the optional Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, available adaptive HID headlights, and standard SYNC®. Looking closer at the optional technology, you'll find that when a sensor in the blind spot information system detects a vehicle entering your blind spot, an indicator light, positioned in the corner of each corresponding side view mirror will alert you. Cross Traffic Alert or "CTA" makes use of the sensors from the Blind Spot Information System to alert you of approaching traffic from either side when in reverse. We found this particularly useful when backing out of tight parking spots (places you've all been when there's a van or big SUV parked on either side). From a connectivity and entertainment perspective (they are linked today, aren't they?), the Lincoln simply bristles. The MKZ incorporates voice-activated, hands-free communication with Sync. The optional Navigation Package offers hands-free navigation, real-time traffic and weather data by way of SIRUIS Travel Link", as well as a 10GB hard drive (allowing owners to store up to 2,400 of their favorite music tracks). Also available is a premium THX® II sound system with a 12 channel amp and 14 speakers. There's plenty more, including Bluetooth® capability, digital music player capability and more. Suffice to say this is one car sure to satisfy any enthusiastic techno-geek. In our short term test, we found the award winning 3.5L Duratec V6 (263 HP, 249 lb.-ft. of torque) to be efficient and willing, particularly with the manual shift-capable 6-speed Selectshift Automatic" transmission and the available all-wheel drive system (we live in the Pacific Northwest - AWD is a wet weather revelation). By our stopwatch tests, 0-60 mph times were the low 7.1-second range. The MKZ is now a car for drivers. And it has definitely raised the standard. The ancestral Zephyrs would be proud. 2009 & 2010 LINCOLN NAVIGATOR: It's hard to believe, but Lincoln's iconic Navigator has been in production for over a decade. Trends come and go but, in the case of the Navigator, one thing is certain: It's a rock solid big SUV that offers considerable luxury and capability. Now, it should be no secret that the brand Lincoln and luxury go hand in hand, but many tend to forget that the big Navigator is a well rounded, capable SUV. Providing the grunt necessary to move big loads is a 310-horsepower, 365 foot-pound torque 5.4- liter, single overhead cam V8. Where this engine differs from many others is the fact that it's flexfuel friendly. This means you can fill up with regular 87-octane unleaded gasoline, E85 (ethanolgasoline mix) or a combination of both. Compared to pre-2009 Navigators, the engine is certified to reduce smog-forming emissions by 55 percent. Backing the SOHC V8 is a six-speed automatic gearbox. The smaller steps between gears improve acceleration, while the double overdrive gearsets (fifth gear and sixth gear are both overdrive) help to improve fuel economy. Powertrain noise is reduced simultaneously. Interior Amenities As you can see, the mechanics and platform electronics are plenty stout, but what about the personal amenities? Truthfully, Lincoln never lets you forget you are in fact driving a Lincoln. Climb behind the leather-wrapped, wood-trimmed steering wheel and you'll be met with an instrument cluster that's reminiscent of the fabulous dual cowl job first seen on Lincoln's legendary 1961 Continental. The wood trim extends through the door trim and across the cluster center stack and through the sweeping center console. Chrome plated trim is abundant while the seats are scrumptiously trimmed in what seems like acres of high end leather. There's considerable space for passengers in all three rows of seating; and, in part due to the independent rear suspension system, legroom is rather abundant, even in the third-row seat. Pedals are power adjustable. Ditto with the PowerFold? feature of the third row seat. Front row seats are heated and cooled and the sound system is based upon a 14-speaker (no misprint), 600-watt stereo complete with a six-disc in-dash CD changer. Lincoln's SYNC® voice-activated, in-vehicle communications and entertainment system (with a USB port in the first-row center floor console) is standard, as is a SIRIUS® Satellite Radio receiver. A voice-activated Navigation System with SIRIUS Travel LinkTM is available. This system, working by way of the SIRIUS Satellite Radio network, provides access to information and entertainment such as real-time traffic data, weather reports, fuel options sorted by price and/or distance, major league pro and college sports scores and much more. Other standard comfort and convenience equipment includes a rear view camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, Easy FuelTM capless fuel filler, forward and reverse sensing systems (that helps make parking a breeze), and heated second-row seats.
